Automotive Manufacturing

Use of diamond-like coatings in the automotive industry is related to a reduction of friction in critical engine parts and the prevention of their overheating, which considerably increases the coefficient of efficiency and service life of engines. This also provides for easy and smooth sliding of adjacent parts. Coefficient of sliding friction in this case equals 0.15, and maximum allowable heating temperature of the part is 4500°C. The coating actually behaves as a solid lubricant. Testing performed on a racing model VAZ 2108 by AVTOVAZ has shown that combined treatment of engine parts — valves, piston rings, crank shaft — facilitates an increase in the number of revolutions per minute from 7,000 up to 11,000, at the same time avoiding typical engine overheating. And we should not forget the increased durability and enhanced protection against corrosion of the coated parts
